Each week, the older students in our school read an adapted news article. When I started working with some of these teachers, I quickly realized that the article was not accessible for all students. Most of the teachers are still learning Classroom Suite and needed additional supports to be able to create materials every week for their students. In order to support these teachers, I created a template and how-to guide to make these switch accessible articles.
This template can easily be turned into a book template by deleting “The Washington Post” image on the first page.
Every book we adapt at school (unless it is from the Linda Burkhart) includes the same toolbar. We do this for 2 reasons:
- Students become familiar with the structure of the book and are able to navigate it with ease over time.
- You can create 1 overlay for a classroom that can be used with every book.
Below you will find the link to the activity on Classroom Suite IntelliShare and the PowerPoint containing directions for using it.
